Birding on the Stillaguamish

Great_Blue_Heron_Stillaguamish

Late morning light on a Great Blue Heron I spotted hunting the shallows of the Stillaguamish a few days back. It was meticulously cleaning it’s wings a few minutes before which is why it has feathers at the tip of it’s beak. What a majestic animal. It was hunting small fish which it shook and held for some time before swallowing (a common behavior made by wading birds to get prey fish to stop extending spines on the fins). All smiles on my end of the lens.
